Top Ten Movie Heroes Picked by Romance Writers

Here's another survey from some of our favorite romance authors on their most adored movie heroes:

 Jerrica Knight-Catania

I know that everyone is always drooling and salivating over Mr. Darcy, especially the Colin Firth version of him. And while I love Colin Firth, I just can't find a place in my heart for Mr. Darcy. Why? Because Mr. Knightly is taking up too much space there. Specifically the Jeremy Northam version. Okay, so his nose is a bit long, and maybe he's a weensie bit short, but I love him. I love the way he scolds Emma for being awful to poor Miss Bates, yet can't help but love her in spite of all her faults. But it was when he danced with Harriet at the ball that I really fell in love with him. Yes, I'm a sucker for a Beta Hero :)

"Han Solo, hands down. How can you resist that rakish charm and the complete change of character by the end of the trilogy. Him or Indiana Jones, smart, capable, ingenious. I could watch Harrison Ford paint a bathroom. Though Liam Neeson as Rob Roy was pretty dang awesome too.

Kay Springsteen
Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford-Indiana Jones movies x4)
Dr. Robert Campbell (Sean Connery-Medicine Man)
Han Solo (Harrison Ford-Star Wars)
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel-Fast and Furious movies)
Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze-Dirty Dancing)
John Book (Harrison Ford-Witness)
Paul Sutton (Keanu Reeves-A Walk in the Clouds)
Ben Randall (Kevin Costner-The Guardian)
President Andrew Shepherd (Michael Douglas-The American President)
Stephen McCaffrey (Kurt Russell-Backdraft)

My top ten movie heroes of all time:

Suzanne Rock
I love old Hollywood movies. In fact, my first published novel, Spyder's Web, has a masquerade party that is very film noir, and a homage to old Hollywood. As a result, most of my favorite actors are from classic movies that have been around for a while.

1) Humphrey Bogart
2) Sean Connery
3) Marlon Brando
4) Charlton Heston
5) Clint Eastwood
6) Jack Nicholson
7) Paul Newman
8) Robert De Niro
9) Robert Redford
10) Harrison Ford

All found in one movie:  The Magnificent Seven
Steve McQueen (!!!!!)
Yul Brynner
James Coburn
Charles Bronson

Vanessa Barger
Mr. Darcy (of course)
Captain Wentworth
The Beast
Robin Hood
Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser, Mummy movies)

Rebekah Griffith
Han Solo
Mr. Darcy
Aragorn (Lord of the Rings)
Captain Jack Sparrow (hehehe)
Jacob Black (Twilight)
Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird)
Landon Carter (A Walk to Remember)
Marius Pontmercy (From Les Miserable)
Legolas Greenleaf (Lord of the Rings)
Li Shang (Mulan)
Obi Wan Kenobi (the young version in Star Wars)

 Bri Clark
Vin Diesel
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
Channing Tatum
Taylor Lautner
Kim Bowman
Tom Booker (Robert Redford - The Horse Whisperer)
Lieutenant General Eugene Irwin (Robert Redford - The Last Castle)
Nathan Muir (Robert Redford - Spy Game)
Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Walberg - The Shooter)
Sydney Carton - (Chris Saradon - A Tale of Two Cities)
Ray Singleton (Skeet Ulrich - The Magic of Ordinary Days)
Jacob "Big Jake" McCandles (John Wayne - Big Jake)
John Elder (John Wayne - The Sons of Katie Elder)
Sonny Steele (Robert Redford - The Electric Horseman)

Jean Joachim
This is my list, compiled with help from Andee Bram. It's not complete, there are so many fantastic heroes out there, but it's someplace to start:

Clark Gable as Rhett Butler
Errol Flynn in Robin Hood, or anything else *blushes*
Humphrey Bogart in almost anything
Sean Connery as James Bond
Richard Gere in “An Officer and a Gentleman”
Bill Pullman in “While You Were Sleeping”
Harrison Ford in almost anything, but especially as Han Solo
Edward Norton in “The Painted Veil” and “The Illusionist”
Robert Pattinson in the "Twilight" series
Michael Fassbender in “Jane Eyre” (playing now)

Who did we miss? Please give me your additions in a comment.
Do you agree with adding Jeff Bridges from "True Grit"?

P.S. Read brand new 5 "Spider" review of "Sunny Days, Moonlit Nights" at WebbWeaver book review site

My own personal favorite is well-represented: Han Solo. Also got warm thoughts at seeing Rhett Butler and Aragorn mentioned. Those were good ones. Ralph Feinnes in The English Patient also lit my cigar. Good list here, Jean. Excellent inspiration.

I love how often Harrison Ford pops up. The Last Crusade is one of my all time favorite movies because Sean Connery is in it too.

Oops! How could we forget Gary Cooper in High Noon!!

Nice choices.
Can I just say, for the sake of accuracy, that Jeremy Northam is 6'2". Gwyneth Paltrow is tall (5'9") which is what creates the illusion that he is shorter than he actually is. I am delighted you included Jeremy's Knightley and that you enjoy it.

jeremynorthamfanblog - I had no idea! He looks so short next to Gwynnie! Thanks for clarifying. But for the record, my hubby is short, so short works for me :)

You forgot Derek Odom! I *did* just whisk you away on my horse, did I not? Sigh... *lol* Cool post, Jean.

Harrison Ford is well represented here (with good reason). Authors of romance books are really the best people to ask about romantic heroes.
